FAQs
Does CompareUs compare every health insurance policy?
No. CompareUs does not provide health insurance quotes on this website. If you request a comparison call and provide your consent, we pass your details to ItsMy Group and one of their representatives will contact you to discuss options from participating insurers. PrivateHealth.gov.au publishes a government comparison of policies available in Australia.
What should I compare on hospital cover?
Start with the clinical categories you may need, then check exclusions, restrictions, excesses, co-payments, waiting periods, hospital agreements and likely doctor gaps for the exact product.
Is extras cover the same as hospital cover?
No. Extras generally pays benefits for eligible non-hospital services such as dental, optical or physiotherapy. Extras-only cover does not satisfy Medicare Levy Surcharge or Lifetime Health Cover hospital-cover rules.
Will I serve waiting periods again when switching funds?
Waiting periods already served generally transfer for an equivalent or lower level of cover. New or higher benefits can attract waiting periods, so obtain written confirmation from the new fund before cancelling the old policy.
Does private health insurance remove every out-of-pocket cost?
No. Excesses, co-payments, restricted hospital benefits, doctor gaps and extras limits can still leave costs. Ask for written estimates before planned treatment.
How often should I compare health insurance?
Review it at least annually and after changes such as moving, starting a family, planned treatment, retirement, a premium increase or a change in household income.
